Anesthesia & Analgesia Volume 109, Issue 3 - September 2009
Few medical decisions are as sensitive as withdrawing life support for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. As our technology becomes more advanced, and we are able to transiently delay death in even the most hopeless of settings, physicians struggle to properly engage patients and their families with these difficult end-of-life decisions. This issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia captures how this challenge is handled in two ICUs in the Netherlands.
